Gumball 3000 2013 film

8 Mar 2015

Gumball 3000, a recap from the event two years ago in Copenhagen!

When it comes to supercars, Gumball 3000 is absolutely fantastic! It's one gorgeous supercar after another. And all of them wrapped in different vinyl designs that add to the atmosphere.

Since the Gumball 3000 participants drove through Denmark in 2015, we decided to celebrate this by making a Gumball 3000 film. The film covers their start in Copenhagen as part of their 15th anniversary run in 2013.

The first day is arrival day and the opening party day. Day two is the day they leave Denmark for the next country on their route.

Day 1, morning and afternoon:

It's an early Saturday morning around 9 am. We're close to Rådhuspladsen. The first cars are slowly starting to arrive. There aren't many people watching yet, since Copenhageners need a bit of time to wake up too.

It doesn't take long before the first supercars, such as Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Aston Martin and McLaren, show up wearing gorgeous, creative vinyl wraps.

Slowly more and more people start showing up. The combination of the gorgeous cars revving up in honour of the crowd, plus the warm sunny weather, creates an extra special, great atmosphere.

More supercars start arriving, from brands including Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes and Nissan. On top of that, some special cars show up too, such as a desert racer and a Fiat 500 with 300 hp.

The gorgeous cars keep arriving, such as Bentley, Ultima, Corvette, Koenigsegg and more.

It's not every day that Copenhagen is filled with loads of supercars, which drew a lot of people out in the afternoon.

Day 1 evening:

Thanks to Betsafe, we got VIP access to the opening party itself at the Opera House, which was a huge experience. We were very grateful for this.

All the participants gathered at the Opera House, everyone from actors, singers, oil sheikhs to various wealthy businessmen. What all the participants had in common was that they could afford to take part and had been approved by Gumball 3000 to participate.

Before they arrived at the Opera House, they were ferried in small groups by a fast boat, from the Amalienborg waterside across to the opposite side, where the Opera House is located.

Outside the Opera House, a few special cars had gathered, including Batman's car, the "Tumbler".

To add to the atmosphere, various Danish celebrities had also been invited to the party.

The man behind the event is Maximillion Cooper. After a while he takes the stage and welcomes everyone to the Gumball 3000, the 15th anniversary run going from Copenhagen to Monaco! And all the participants burst into loud cheers. There's a truly great atmosphere.

After that, The Cuban Brothers deliver a fantastic dance show, which was super entertaining.

After that it was all about partying until you couldn't anymore. We left a little past midnight, since we had to get up early the next day to be ready for when the cars set off on Sunday morning.

The participants kept partying at the Opera House. From the outside, the Opera House looked amazing in the dark, with all the "disco colours" visible behind the glass facade.

Day 2 morning:

It's around 8 am and we're at the starting point, right by Rådhuspladsen. We take a morning walk and look at the supercars a bit. Cars worth a combined total of many millions have spent the night by Rådhuspladsen. Security guards were there keeping an eye on the supercars.

The crowd slowly starts showing up. The participants also slowly start appearing and starting their cars so the engines can warm up before they drive off. The Gumball 3000 participants have to leave in a specific order, so it's important everyone is there on time.

A light drizzle starts falling from the clouds, and at the same time a marathon is being run on the road the participants are about to head out onto. Some of the crowd who also wanted to be at Rådhuspladsen when the cars drive off across the square are "trapped" by the marathon race. They have to wait for the marathon runners to pass by. Luckily for the "trapped" crowd, some of the Gumball 3000 participants are running a bit late. So they make it over to Rådhuspladsen before it all kicks off.

More and more cars start up, and at the same time it starts raining more. We're still waiting for a few participants. We hope for a break in the weather.

Then it happens. All the participants have arrived, the cars are started, and they drive off one by one, each presented individually before leaving the pit area and driving across Rådhuspladsen, slowly leaving Copenhagen and Denmark.

Several of the cars rev up to the great delight of the crowd, both local and international, who happily braved the rain to see all the gorgeous supercars.

It was a fantastic event!
